Products

Where do our products come from?

On each product page you'll find the exact origin – whether it's saffron from Herat, pine nuts from the Afghan mountains, or pistachios from Iran. If a country of origin changes, we'll update this immediately before the product is available in the shop.

Are all products certified organic?

Not all of them. Many of our partners in Afghanistan and Iran work according to traditional methods that have been pesticide-free for generations. An organic label according to German standards is rarely available there. But out of self-interest, these families cultivate their soils to keep them fertile – for their children and grandchildren. The result: products that are effectively organic, even if they are not certified.

Is AssalBazar vegan?

Our product range is predominantly vegan and vegetarian. We don't want to dictate to anyone how they should eat – but our products come mainly from the plant world: nuts, dried fruits, spices and teas.

Suppliers, producers & growers

How do we work with producers?

We source many of our products directly from producers, bypassing large intermediaries. This saves on transport distances, reduces CO₂ emissions, and ensures fair wages. Especially in countries like Afghanistan, this helps ensure that families can make a living from their work.

Are the producers paid fairly?

We place great importance on fair conditions. We know many of our partners personally or through local contacts. We consciously pay above-average prices for quality goods because we are convinced that this is the only way to achieve sustainability and fairness.

Have the products been tested?

Yes. Our imports are subject to strict German food controls. So far, all products have been certified without any problems and have met the high standards.

Packaging

Why do we (still) use plastic?

Food safety is our top priority. Many of our products – such as nuts or dried fruits – are very delicate and require protection from moisture, light, and air. Therefore, we still use special, thin plastic packaging. We are aware that plastic is not the most sustainable solution. At the same time, it's also true that food waste would be far more environmentally damaging.

Are we working on alternatives?

Yes. We are constantly testing new materials and more sustainable packaging that can preserve the quality of our products. Our goal is to gradually switch to more environmentally friendly solutions.

Our mission

Our mission is simple: We want to bring you the treasures of Afghanistan, Iran, and other regions – fairly, authentically, and sustainably. Every nut, every fruit, every spice tells a story: of mountains, fields, and families who work with passion.
