The Pusa Basmati 1121 was approved for commercial cultivation in 2003 at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi. It is known for its exceptional length of up to 9 mm when uncooked and up to 21.5 mm after cooking – for which it is listed in the Limca Book of Records.
This Basmati rice is processed using the so-called Sella method (parboiling), in which the rice is steamed and dried before being husked. This gives it its typical golden-yellow color and ensures it remains particularly nutritious.
